Description
The Flysurfer SONIC 5 is designed for riders who want maximum speed, lift, and efficiency in all conditions. Built as a high-performance closed-cell foil kite, it delivers explosive boost, long glide, and serious upwind ability.
This is a competition-level kite refined for freerace and big air riders who demand precision and performance.
WHO IT’S FOR
-
Discipline: Foil racing, high-performance freeride, big air
-
Conditions: Light wind through to strong wind where efficiency and speed matter
-
Experience Level: Advanced to expert riders only
This is not an entry-level foil kite. The SONIC 5 rewards clean technique and active flying.
KEY FEATURES
-
High Aspect Ratio Design
Delivers exceptional lift, glide, and race-level upwind performance. -
Closed-Cell Construction
Water-relaunchable and stable on the water, unlike open-cell race kites. -
Refined Internal Structure
Improved profile stability at speed and during aggressive edging. -
Massive Boost & Hangtime
Designed to send high and float long with controlled landings. -
Optimised Bridle System
Precise feedback with reduced drag for improved top-end performance.
REAL-WORLD FEEL
On the water, the SONIC 5 feels fast. It accelerates quickly through the window and generates apparent wind efficiently, which is exactly what you want for racing or powered freeride.
Compared to freeride foil kites, it feels more direct and more technical. The lift is powerful and vertical, with long float on the way down. In lighter winds, it builds power smoothly and carries you through transitions without stalling.
It does require active input. If you’re used to inflatable kites, the handling will feel different — more efficient, but less forgiving if mismanaged.
FIT / SETUP NOTES
-
Best paired with a high-performance hydrofoil setup.
-
Choose smaller sizes than you would in an LEI kite due to the efficiency.
-
Advanced tuning of mixer settings can fine-tune bar pressure and turning speed.
If you're unsure on size, contact us and we’ll advise based on your weight, board, and typical wind range.
WHY WE STOCK IT
At Northern Watersports, we stock the SONIC 5 because it represents the cutting edge of foil kite performance. For experienced riders pushing boundaries in racing or big air, this kite delivers measurable gains in speed and height.
We only recommend it to riders ready for its performance level — and we’ll always be honest if another model would suit you better.
