Description

The Mystic Brand Fullsuit 3/2mm BackZip Flatlock is the full-body option in Mystic's entry-level Brand range — full arms, full legs, and a back-zip entry with Overhead Backup Shield. It's the broadest-coverage suit in the Brand line: if you want complete arm and leg protection at the Brand price point, this is the one. MX2 neoprene, flatlock seams, Wind Mesh chest panel, and the Aquaflush drainage system at the ankles — a complete warm-weather wetsuit at the sharpest price in the range.

Where the Brand Longarm Shortleg leaves your legs free and the Brand Shortarm exposes your arms, this fullsuit wraps you completely. That makes it the most versatile cut in the Brand line for UK summer use — comfortable from later in May and usable well into September when water temperatures are still acceptable but air temperatures and wind chill demand more coverage. The flatlock seams mean this isn't a cold-water suit; it's designed for summer use in 15–19°C water, not for the depths of a British winter.

Who It's For

  • Disciplines: Kitesurfing, wingfoiling, windsurfing, SUP, surfing, pumpfoiling
  • Level: All levels — an ideal first suit for beginners who want full coverage without an eye-watering price tag
  • Best for: UK summer sessions (May–September), European travel, riders who want the maximum coverage at the Brand price
  • Water temp: Comfortable from 15°C upwards; better than the shortleg and shortarm options in marginal UK summer conditions
  • Not ideal for: UK autumn and winter sessions below 14°C — for that, you need a thicker suit with GBS seams

Key Features

  • MX2 Neoprene — Mystic's entry-level neoprene compound; dependable stretch, rebound, and durability for a summer suit at this price
  • Wind Mesh Chest Panel — higher-density closed-cell neoprene at the chest; blocks wind chill when riding upwind or sitting on the water in a breeze
  • Flatlock Seams — sewn flat and smooth against the skin with no raised edges — no chafing across the body. The stitch lines are through-stitched, so water can seep in; this is the correct choice for summer water temperatures of 15°C and above
  • Back Zip Entry — full-length spine zip operated solo with a leash cord; straightforward and reliable entry
  • Overhead Backup Shield — neoprene neck flap pulled over the head before zipping; creates a secondary seal at the collar and significantly reduces water flushing down the zip on wipeouts
  • Aquaflush — perforated neoprene panels at the lower legs; any water that collects inside drains out under gravity when you step clear of the water
  • Full Arm / Full Leg Cut — sleeves run wrist to shoulder, legs ankle to hip; complete body coverage for maximum thermal protection in the Brand range
  • 3/2mm Construction — 3mm body, 2mm limbs; the standard choice for UK summer water

Real-World Feel

The BackZip Fullsuit is the most practical all-rounder in the Brand line for British summer sessions. Where a shortleg suit leaves you feeling the water temperature on your calves and thighs, and a shortarm exposes your forearms to spray and wind, the fullsuit gives you consistent coverage from wrist to ankle. For early morning June sessions at West Kirby — water still 14–15°C, air temperature brisk — that full coverage makes a genuine difference in how long you last and how much you enjoy the session. The back-zip entry with Overhead Shield is easy to use solo once you've done it a few times. The MX2 neoprene has decent stretch for an entry-level compound; you won't feel as restricted as you might expect in a warm summer suit. Be honest about the flatlock seams: in 18°C water in August, they're not a concern — any water that gets in through the stitch lines warms up quickly. In 12°C water in late October, that same water will make itself known. This is a summer suit and performs best when you use it as one.

Setup / Fit

The back zip runs the full length of the spine and is easy to manage alone using the leash cord. Pull the Overhead Backup Shield up and over the back of your head before closing the zip — this positions the neoprene flap correctly to seal the collar. Mystic wetsuits run true to size; check the chart below and use your chest and height measurements rather than guessing. The suit should be snug across the chest, shoulders and lower back with no excess neoprene bunching. A fullsuit that's too loose will flush more water and feel colder than you'd expect; a suit that's too small may restrict breathing. If you're borderline between sizes, size up if you find entry to be a struggle, or stay at your measured size for the better thermal seal.

Materials

  • Neoprene: MX2 foam (Mystic entry-level compound)
  • Chest panel: Wind Mesh — higher-density closed-cell neoprene with single-sided fabric lamination for wind resistance
  • Lining: 90% superstretch nylon blend
  • Seams: Flatlock stitching throughout
  • Thickness: 3mm body / 2mm arms and legs
  • Closure: Back zip with integrated Overhead Backup Shield
  • Cut: Full arms / full legs (fullsuit)

Size Chart

Size Height (cm) Chest (cm) Waist (cm)
XS 164–169 85–89 70–75
S 170–175 89–94 75–80
M 176–182 94–99 80–85
L 182–188 99–104 85–90
XL 186–196 104–111 90–96
XXL 193–199 111–118 96–103

Measure chest at the widest point with arms at your sides. A wetsuit should be snug but not restrictive — you should be able to take a full breath without the chest fighting you. If between sizes, size up for easier entry; stay at your measured size for the best thermal seal.

Pairs Well With

  • Wetsuit accessories — rash vests, changing robes and wetsuit bags to protect your suit and make UK beach car park changes more comfortable
  • Wetsuit boots and gloves — add a pair of 3mm boots and gloves to extend this suit's comfortable range into cooler spring and early autumn sessions; the fullsuit body coverage plus boots and gloves makes for a solid early/late summer setup

Why We Stock It

The BackZip Fullsuit is the entry point we most commonly recommend to first-time buyers who want complete coverage without committing to a premium suit before they know how much they'll ride. Full arms, full legs, back-zip entry — it's the most straightforward option in the Brand range and the one that gives you the widest usable window through the British summer. Yes, the flatlock seams mean you'll feel the water at the seam lines when it's cold — we'll always be straight about that. But from May through September in UK waters, or for any warm-water travel, this suit will look after you and it'll last if you rinse it properly after every session. We're a rider-owned shop on the Wirral, we use Mystic gear ourselves, and we stock the full range from the Brand up to The One so we can tell you honestly which level of suit makes sense for your conditions and your budget.

FAQs

What is the difference between the Brand BackZip Fullsuit and the Brand FrontZip Fullsuit?

The two fullsuits use the same MX2 neoprene, flatlock seams, Wind Mesh chest panel, and 3/2mm construction. The key difference is the entry system: the BackZip uses a full-length spine zip with an Overhead Backup Shield and Aquaflush drainage; the FrontZip uses a chest-mounted zip and adds Hex Tech kneepads and Non-Slip Cuffs. The FrontZip gives slightly more back-panel stretch and movement through the shoulders; the BackZip is simpler to put on solo and uses the Overhead Shield to help seal the neck. Both are strong choices — the right one depends on whether shoulder freedom or ease of entry is the priority for you.

What is the Overhead Backup Shield?

The Overhead Backup Shield is a neoprene flap sewn into the back of the collar on back-zip Mystic wetsuits. Before closing the zip, you reach back and pull this flap up over the back of your head so that it drapes against the back of your neck. When the zip closes, the flap sits between the zipper and your neck, creating a second barrier against water flushing in through the zip during wipeouts or duck-dives. It makes a noticeable difference to how watertight a back-zip suit feels in active conditions.

Can I use a 3/2mm back-zip fullsuit for UK spring and autumn sessions?

You can push into May and early October with a 3/2mm flatlock fullsuit if you're doing active watersports and don't mind a bit of discomfort at the seam lines when you wipe out. Most riders find the limit is around 14°C for this type of suit — below that, the combination of thinner neoprene and flatlock seams means you'll feel the cold quite quickly. If you ride regularly through the British shoulder seasons (April–May and October), we'd recommend stepping up to a 4/3mm or 5/3mm GBS-seamed suit for those periods and keeping the Brand fullsuit for the heart of summer.

How do I use the Aquaflush system?

Aquaflush is passive — you don't need to do anything. The perforated neoprene patches are positioned at the lower legs. When you step out of the water, gravity pulls any water that has collected inside the suit downward through these perforations and out of the suit. You may notice the suit feels lighter and less waterlogged after a minute or two out of the water compared to a suit without Aquaflush, particularly after a session with a lot of wipeouts.

Is the Mystic Brand wetsuit good quality for the price?

Yes — for what it is. The Brand is Mystic's entry-level line, and the construction reflects that: MX2 neoprene rather than the Yamamoto rubber used in their higher ranges, and flatlock seams rather than GBS. But for a summer suit used in appropriate conditions and cared for properly, the quality is reliable and the suit will last multiple seasons. The Wind Mesh chest panel and Overhead Backup Shield are features you don't always get at this price from other brands. We wouldn't stock something we thought was poor value.

How do I care for this wetsuit?

Rinse thoroughly in fresh cold water after every session — this is the single most important thing. Salt that dries in the flatlock stitch holes gradually breaks down the thread and the neoprene around it. Hang the suit by the waist over a wide hanger or a folding rack; never by the shoulders, which stresses the shoulder seams and causes the suit to stretch and sag. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Don't machine wash or tumble dry. A correctly rinsed and stored Brand fullsuit will hold up for several seasons of regular use.
