Description
The Mystic Motion Hooded Fullsuit 5/3mm FrontZip 2026 is the definitive single-piece winter weapon for UK watersports — a mid-premium 5/3mm suit with a fixed integrated hood built in from the factory, so your head and neck stay warm without bolting on a separate hood or wrestling with a neoprene beanie on a January beach. If you're kitesurfing, wingfoiling or SUP surfing through the British winter and want one suit that does everything, this is it.
Built around MX3 Foam neoprene — Mystic's updated mid-premium rubber with enhanced stretch and rebound — the Motion Hooded uses a front-zip (chest-zip) construction that keeps the back panel completely seam-free. That matters enormously for kitesurfing and wing: every kite trim and uphaul involves shoulder rotation, and a seam-free back with maximum neoprene stretch means the suit moves with you rather than fighting you. The Mystic Motion Hooded sits at the mid-point of the Mystic range — warmer-water riders step down to the Majestic, harder-core cold-water warriors step up to the Marshall or Voltt.
Who It's For
- Disciplines: Kitesurfing, wingfoiling, pumpfoiling, SUP surfing, surf
- Level: Beginner through to advanced — this is a working suit, not a race suit
- Best for: UK autumn, winter and early spring sessions (water temps roughly 5–12°C); anyone who wants the simplicity of a single hooded suit over layering
- Not ideal for: If you kite primarily in summer and want the packability of a separate hood, the standard Motion 5/3mm Fzip is the better call
Key Features
- Integrated fixed hood — neoprene hood is part of the suit construction, not an add-on; seals against the neck with no cold-water gap, no shifting mid-session
- MX3 Foam neoprene — updated mid-premium rubber; high stretch and fast rebound, warm without the stiffness of older-generation neoprene
- Front Zip (YKK chest zip) — horizontal chest zip means the entire back panel is seam-free; maximum arm-swing freedom for kite and wing
- Fox Fleece Inner Lining — Chest + Back — thermal fleece lining in the core zones traps warmth and wicks moisture away from skin
- Eco XTR Lining — Arms + Legs — recycled high-stretch broken lining on the limbs; faster donning, better flexibility, lower environmental impact
- 100% Waterproof Stretch Taping — stretch tape applied throughout the suit, not just in critical areas; stops flushing at every seam
- GBS seams (Glued Blind Stitched) — seams are glued and blind-stitched so the needle never pierces the outer neoprene face; virtually no water ingress at the seam
- Glideskin neck construction — smooth, skin-finished neoprene at the collar zone creates a low-friction seal against the hood and neck
- Aquabarrier — silicone printing on the collarbone region forms a secondary barrier between the overlapping chest-zip panels, stopping water tracking inward
- Aquaflush 2.0 — improved perforation structure that lets water out but not in; no more icy water pooling around your feet after a wipeout
- Hex-Tech Kneepads — 4-way Super-tex reinforcement panels over the knees; protects against board abrasion on land and in the water
- Non-slip wrist and ankle cuffs — silicone-printed cuffs keep the suit sealed and stop sleeve ride-up during a session
- Key Pocket 2.0 — external neoprene pocket on the lower leg with keyloop and mini-buckle; access your key post-session without digging through pockets
- 3D pre-curved panels — suit is cut and shaped on a 3D mould, so the fabric sits naturally in an athletic stance with less bunching behind the knee
Real-World Feel
Put on the Motion Hooded on a cold Wirral morning and the Fox Fleece lining hits you immediately — there's a proper warmth to it, not just the clammy-neoprene sensation of budget suits. The integrated hood takes a session or two to get used to; once it's on correctly and the glideskin neck is sealed, you stop thinking about it and just ride. The 5/3mm thickness hits the sweet spot for UK winter: genuinely warm without the mobility penalty of a 6mm suit. After a wipeout, the Aquaflush 2.0 drains water out rather than trapping it — your core temperature holds more consistently through a long session. The front-zip means the suit pulls on cleanly from the back, and the Aquabarrier does a real job of cutting any ingress that gets past the zip. Honest verdict: this is a working suit for riders who need warmth, not riders who need bragging rights.
Setup and Fit — Putting on a Hooded Wetsuit
Getting into a hooded suit correctly is the single biggest factor in how warm you'll be. Step in legs first, pull the suit to your waist, then feed your arms in one at a time. Once both arms are in and the chest zip is still open, pull the hood up and over your head before you close the zip — the hood needs to be settled correctly first. Work the neoprene down from the crown so there's no upward tension pulling the neck seal open. Then reach behind for the zip cord, close the chest zip, and tuck the baffle flap flat. A correctly fitted hood should feel snug but not constricting, with the glideskin neck sitting flush against the back of your skull. If you're between Mystic sizes, size down — a snug fit is a warm fit.

Size Chart — Mystic Men's Wetsuits
Mystic suits are cut to fit snugly — this is intentional. A loose wetsuit flushes cold water constantly. If you're genuinely between two sizes, go with the smaller one.

Pairs Well With
- 5mm split-toe boots and 3mm gloves — the natural companions for a 5/3mm hooded suit in UK winter; the suit handles your core, the accessories handle your extremities
- A changing robe — getting in and out of a hooded wetsuit on the beach in January is much more civilised with a warm robe waiting for you
Why We Stock It
We're a rider-owned shop on the Wirral — we kite, wing and SUP in the Irish Sea year-round. We know exactly what UK winter water feels like, and we stock the suits we'd actually put on ourselves. The Mystic Motion Hooded 5/3mm hits a point in the wetsuit market that we think is underserved: genuinely warm, properly featured, built with recycled linings, and priced under £300. It's not a budget suit pretending to be premium, and it's not a flagship suit with a flagship price. It's the suit most UK kite and wing riders actually need for October through April. If you're unsure whether it's right for you — whether you'd be better served by the Mystic Voltt Hooded for deeper winter or a 4/3mm for year-round use — drop us a message. We'll give you a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
FAQs
Is a hooded wetsuit worth it for UK kitesurfing?
Yes, for most UK winter riders. Water temperatures in UK coastal spots drop below 10°C from November through to March, and heat loss from your head and neck is significant — it's one of the fastest ways to end a session early. A hooded suit eliminates the gap between suit and hood that exists when you use a separate hood, which means less flushing and a more consistent warmth across a long session. The trade-off is a slightly more involved donning process. For riders who kite regularly between October and April, we think an integrated hood is worth it.
What's the difference between the Mystic Motion and the Mystic Motion Hooded?
The core suit is identical — same MX3 neoprene, same Fox Fleece lining, same front-zip construction, same features list. The Hooded version adds a built-in neoprene hood that is part of the suit's construction. You cannot detach it. If you want the option to ride with or without a hood depending on conditions, the standard Motion 5/3mm is the better choice. If you're committed to winter riding and want maximum warmth in a single suit, the Hooded version wins.
How does the front zip compare to a back zip for warmth?
Front-zip suits (chest zip) are generally warmer than back-zip suits. The zip placement on the chest means the entire back panel is one continuous stretch of seam-free neoprene — no zip running down the spine where movement stress is highest. Combined with the Aquabarrier silicone printing and the 100% waterproof stretch taping on seams, the Motion Hooded keeps water out better than an equivalent back-zip construction.
What water temperature is the Mystic Motion Hooded 5/3mm suitable for?
Comfortably 6–14°C. Most UK riders find a 5/3mm hooded suit adequate for the full British winter when paired with 5mm boots and 3mm gloves. Below 6°C in exposed locations, consider stepping up to the Mystic Voltt Hooded 6/4/3. Above 14°C, the 5/3mm will feel warm — a 4/3mm would be a better choice for spring and autumn shoulder season.
Does the Mystic Motion Hooded 5/3mm use recycled materials?
Yes. Both the Fox Fleece inner lining (chest and back) and the Eco XTR lining on the arms and legs are made from recycled materials. The Eco XTR is a recycled high-stretch broken lining — a more sustainable alternative to virgin neoprene linings without compromising stretch.
How should I care for a hooded wetsuit to make it last?
Rinse thoroughly in fresh cold water after every session, paying particular attention to the hood and zip area where salt and sand accumulate. Never dry in direct sunlight or near a heat source — hang it inside-out in a cool, ventilated spot. Store flat or hung on a wide hanger, never folded at the waist. The GBS seams are durable but benefit from occasional application of neoprene cement to any small areas of glue separation before they develop into full seam lifts.
