BangProof Helmet Review 2025 | Stylish CE Certified Water Helmets UK

BangProof Helmet Review 2025: A Stylish New Take on Watersports Safety

Wearing a helmet on the water is essential, but for years that has meant choosing bulky, plastic shells that feel hot and look out of place. BangProof approaches the problem differently. Its helmets look like casual bucket hats or surf caps, yet they are CE EN 1385 certified and built for watersports impact protection.

This season, we tested BangProof helmets while foiling, winging, kitesurfing and eFoiling, and we gathered honest feedback from our customers. This is our complete review.

First Impressions: Style Meets Substance

The first thing you notice about a BangProof helmet is how well it blends in. The bucket version looks good on a bright beach day, while the cap feels clean and understated. Under the minimal look is BangProof’s impact-absorption system that remains supple during normal use and stiffens under impact. The helmet is CE EN 1385 certified and designed to handle multiple knocks without needing immediate replacement. On longer sessions, the lightweight, breathable construction feels noticeably cooler, and the bucket’s brim provides meaningful sun coverage for the face and neck.

On-Water Performance

We tested both the bucket and cap styles around West Kirby and the North Wales coast. Comfort stands out. Once wet, the liner softens slightly and conforms to the head. Several riders commented that they forgot they were wearing it after the first few tacks. In 20–25 knot winds, the brim stayed composed and helped deflect spray, which kept vision clearer during water starts.

Fit is head-shape dependent. In general conditions the helmet remained secure, although in heavier wipeouts it shifted on a few testers. Sun protection was excellent, and for everyday foiling and winging the overall comfort encouraged longer, better-quality sessions.

What Our Customers Say

“It is more comfortable than a hard-shell. I hardly notice it is there. I also get less water in my eyes after a fall, and the brim is just big enough to keep some of it off my face.”

— Nick Cook, Verified Buyer

“It looks good. It feels a bit uncomfortable when I first put it on (59 cm head; size Large) but it softens in the water. Duck dives were my concern with a hat, but so far it is staying on. Overall it is pretty good.”

— Matt Sutherland, Verified Buyer

“The fit is spot on and it protects from the sun. It is ideal for eFoil sessions.”

— Steph, Verified Buyer

“Great for summer winging. It keeps the sun off my face and neck, the brim holds shape when wet and in strong winds, and the impact protection feels reassuring.”

— Ludvig, Verified Buyer

“Customer service was excellent. A warranty issue was resolved quickly with clear communication.”

— Iab, Verified Buyer

The Drawbacks

No product is perfect. There is no dial-adjuster on these helmets, so the fit depends on getting the right size and on individual head shape. During very heavy impacts a few riders felt some movement. The price is higher than basic entry-level lids, which reflects the design and impact technology. For extreme, rocky or high-consequence environments, a traditional hard-shell with strong retention may still be the better option.

Our Verdict

After a full season of testing, BangProof helmets feel like they occupy a smart middle ground: real safety certification, everyday comfort and an aesthetic that looks at home on the water. For foiling, kiting, SUP and wing sessions in typical UK conditions, the balance of protection, comfort and style is impressive. They are not intended to replace a hard-shell in every scenario, but for daily use they are a pleasure to wear and encourage longer sessions.
