Description
Ozone Alpha V2 Single Strut Kite
The Ozone Alpha V2 is a single-strut LEI kite built around three objectives: light weight, packability and versatile performance across freeride, hydrofoil and wave riding. At 4.3 kg for a 12m (proportionally lighter for smaller sizes), it's one of the lightest kites in its class — a meaningful advantage both in light-wind performance and when you're deciding what to pack for a travel trip. The Alpha V2 covers sizes from 4m to 16m and handles everything from high-wind freestyle to long-session light-wind foiling.
Who It's For
Intermediate to advanced riders who want a genuinely versatile kite that doesn't specialise to the point of compromise. If you foil in light winds, want to wave ride without carrying a dedicated wave kite, travel frequently, or need one kite that covers a wide spread of conditions — the Alpha V2 is built for that role. The Variable Bridle Geometry also makes it a practical choice for riders who want to shift feel between a freeride session and a more committed freestyle setup without swapping kites.
Key Features
- Single strut design — one strut instead of three or four means significantly less weight, less packing volume and faster setup and breakdown; the Alpha V2 inflates and packs in a fraction of the time of a traditional multi-strut kite
- Continuous Curve Leading Edge (CCLE) — each segment of the LE is curved to form a smooth arc from tip to tip rather than straight segments with angled joints; reduces parasitic drag and maintains a cleaner airfoil profile across the full span
- Transverse Sail Shaping — works with the CCLE to reduce turbulence at the most critical area of the airfoil; improves the lift-to-drag ratio and overall efficiency across the power range
- Variable Bridle Geometry (VBG) — three bridle positions that adjust the kite's window position, bar pressure and steering response; changed in seconds via pigtail knots, no extra lines or tools required
- Fast Flow One-Pump Inflation System — single-point inflation with high airflow between the strut and leading edge; hose clips seal against unwanted deflation if a hose is damaged; faster to inflate and pack than multi-valve systems
- 4-line pulley-less system — direct, analogue bar feel with no moving parts in the power system; popular with foil riders who prefer precise, predictable depower response
- Advanced rip-stop canopy with ultra-flex coating — improved feedback in gusty conditions for a smoother, more composed ride; reduces canopy deformation under load
- Technical Dacron on leading edge and struts — reinforced structural areas for improved strength, durability and longevity over standard polyester Dacron
- Anti-snag line deflectors — reduces the chance of lines snagging on the kite during launches and water relaunches
- Compressor Bag included — ultra-lightweight compression bag packs the kite down to minimal volume for travel and day-to-day transport
Variable Bridle Geometry — The Three Settings
The VBG is one of the Alpha V2's most practical features. All three settings are accessed by moving the connection point between pigtail knots — no extra lines, no tools, takes under a minute on the beach.
- Wave / Foil setting (upper knot) — lower bar pressure, increased steering reactivity at all power states; easier to turn when de-powered; best for wave riding and hydrofoiling where a light, responsive feel is preferred
- Freeride setting (middle knot — factory default) — balanced performance and feel for all-round free riding, foiling and wave riding in most conditions; the right starting point for most riders and most days
- Freestyle / Onshore setting (lower knot) — kite sits further back in the wind window; increased bar pressure and feedback; heavier, more direct feel; better for unhooking, kite loops and onshore wave riding
Real-World Feel
On a foil board in 10–12 knots with the 12m in Freeride setting, the Alpha V2's light weight translates into something you feel through the bar: responsive without being twitchy, and it drifts well when you overtake it on a wave or deep gybe. The CCLE and Transverse Shaping make the canopy noticeably cleaner in turbulent conditions compared to older single-strut designs — less flutter, better shape retention under changing load. For travel, the Compressor Bag genuinely delivers: a 12m packs down to carry-on duffel territory alongside a bar and lines.
Setup & Inflation
- Unpack and lay the kite downwind on a clean surface
- Attach bar and lines before inflating — easier to connect bridle pigtails to a soft, uninflated kite
- Select your VBG setting (factory default is Freeride / middle knot)
- Connect the pump to the single inflation valve and inflate to the recommended PSI — the Fast Flow system equalises pressure to the strut automatically
- Clip hose seals closed and confirm re-launch balls are in position before launching
Available Sizes & Colours
Available in Blue and Green colourways across the full 4–16m range. Current stocked sizes:
| Size | Price | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 4m | £565 | High-wind specialist; storm kite for experienced riders in 30+ knots |
| 8m | £720 | Medium-to-high wind twin-tip and foil; ~18–28 knots for an average rider |
| 12m | £830 | All-round freeride, foil and wave; versatile single-kite option or core quiver kite |
| 16m | £935 | Light wind specialist; foiling from 8–12 knots for experienced light-wind riders |
Wind ranges vary by rider weight, board type and skill level. Hydrofoil boards significantly extend the lower wind limit of any size.

Pairs Well With
The Alpha V2 is designed for use with a 4-line kite bar. For foiling, pair with a hydrofoil setup and shorter 20–22m lines to tighten the kite's arc and improve depower feel. Browse our full Ozone accessories range for compatible bars, lines and the Ozone Kite Pump V2.
Why We Stock It
The Alpha V2 is the kite we point intermediate foilers and travelling riders toward when they want one versatile kite rather than three specialised ones. The VBG makes it adaptable to a wider range of conditions than most single-strut designs, the CCLE construction gives it a cleaner feel than earlier single-strut kites in choppy or gusty conditions, and the Compressor Bag is a genuinely functional travel solution. Ozone's build quality is consistent and their warranty claim rate is low — which matters when you're buying a kite at this price point.
FAQs
Is the Ozone Alpha V2 suitable for beginner kitesurfers?
The Alpha V2 is rated for intermediate to advanced riders. Its single strut means less inherent structure than a beginner LEI kite, and the VBG options add complexity that new riders don't need. For learning, start with kitesurfing lessons before choosing a kite — instructors will advise on the right first kite for your level.
What bar and lines does the Alpha V2 need?
The Alpha V2 uses a standard 4-line pulley-less system. It's compatible with most modern 4-line kite bars — Ozone's own bars are the natural match since pigtail connector sizing is tuned to work together without adapters.
How does a single strut kite compare to a 3-strut kite?
Fewer struts means less weight and pack volume, faster inflation and deflation, and a lighter bar feel — but less internal structure. Ozone addresses this with the CCLE, which maintains a more consistent LE profile than older single-strut designs that could feel vague in choppy conditions. In practice the Alpha V2 feels stable and composed, not floppy — the weight saving is the real payoff rather than a meaningful performance compromise.
What's the difference between the Alpha V2 and the Ozone Reo?
The Reo is a dedicated wave kite optimised for cross-shore surfing, drift and tight turning. The Alpha V2 is a more versatile freeride and foil kite that handles waves well but isn't as specifically tuned for surf riding. If wave riding is your primary focus, the Reo is the better tool; if you want one kite that performs well across freeride, foil and waves, the Alpha V2 is the right choice.
Can I use the Alpha V2 for snowkiting?
No — LEI (Leading Edge Inflatable) kites require inflation to hold their shape and aren't appropriate for snowkiting or land boarding. Those disciplines require a foil kite designed specifically for hard surface and snow use.
