Description

The AFS Silk V2 is the evolution of one of the most talked-about surf foil wings in the game. Where the original Silk proved that a high-quality, surf-tuned AFS foil wing could hold its own against anything on the market, the V2 takes that blueprint and pushes it further: higher aspect ratio, a demountable mount, refined tip geometry, and six sizes from 650 to 1150 cm². The DNA is unmistakably Silk — loose, expressive, completely connected to the water — but the V2 adds more drive through the bottom turn, better glide across the flat, and a wider window of use that opens it up to downwind and SUP foiling as well as waves and winging.

The key structural change from the V1 is the demountable (removable) front wing mount. On the original Silk the wing and fuselage are one fixed piece. On the V2, the wing bolts onto a Fuselink fuselage, which means you can swap sizes for different conditions, travel more compactly, and add a second size to your setup without buying a second complete foil. The AR has also stepped up from 8.0 to approximately 9, which reduces induced drag and meaningfully improves glide — you will feel it in the pump and in the ability to connect sections that would previously have cost you a foot-drag reset.

Who It's For

The Silk V2 covers more ground than almost any other single front wing in AFS's range. Its six sizes make it a genuinely multi-discipline wing:

  • Wave riding and surf foil — the smaller sizes (650, 750) are fast and aggressive for powerful beach break and reef; the mid sizes (850, 950) cover the majority of surf conditions at a wide rider weight range
  • Wing foiling — the V2's increased glide makes it easier to stay aloft between gusts; 850 and 950 are popular all-round wing sizes, 1050 and 1150 suit lighter winds and heavier riders
  • Downwind foiling — the higher AR and improved glide make the 1050 and 1150 capable downwind wings for flat-water runs or open-ocean DW sessions
  • SUP foil — the 1050 and 1150 offer enough lift to assist paddle-assisted SUP foiling for intermediate riders

Skill level: intermediate to advanced. The smaller sizes demand good technique; the larger sizes are more forgiving and could work for a confident intermediate who has solid foil fundamentals.

Key Features

  • Removable (demountable) front wing mount — bolts onto the Fuselink fuselage; swap sizes between sessions or pack the wing separately for travel
  • Raised aspect ratio (~AR 9) — higher than the original Silk's AR 8.0; reduces induced drag, improves glide and pump efficiency
  • Six sizes: 650, 750, 850, 950, 1050, 1150 cm² — finer graduation between sizes than the V1; easier to dial in the right wing for your weight and conditions
  • Refined tip geometry and updated dihedral — tips redesigned to lock into carves more decisively while keeping the smooth, progressive roll that defines Silk character
  • HR carbon construction with Corecell core — High Resilience carbon over a closed-cell foam core; balances stiffness with impact durability better than full laminate designs
  • Whale-inspired leading-edge tubercles — biomimetic bumps reduce stall tendency and improve control in broken or aerated water
  • Fuselink compatible — designed to work with the full AFS Fuselink fuselage and mast ecosystem

On the Foil

The first thing you notice on the V2 is the glide. Compared to the V1, the wing carries speed through flat spots noticeably better — and that makes everything from pumping between waves to connecting sections in a downwind run feel more effortless. The turns are sharp and engaged: the updated dihedral and refined tips mean you get a clean lock-in as you drive a rail, rather than the slow roll you might feel on lower-AR surf wings. The Silk character is still there — loose, expressive, never clinical — but the V2 is a more efficient version of it.

Across the size range: the 750 is a fast, manoeuvrable wave tool that rewards aggression. The 850 and 950 are where most riders will land — versatile, confidence-inspiring, capable in a wide range of conditions. The 1050 and 1150 are bigger-feeling wings that shine in light wind winging and downwind runs where you want as much free glide as possible. All sizes pump well for their area; the higher AR makes the V2 one of the better pumping wings in this segment of the market.

Compatibility & Setup

Important — AFS Fuselink system only. The Silk V2 front wing uses AFS's Fuselink mount and is not compatible with standard US box plate mounts, generic aluminium fuselages, or other brand fuselage systems (Axis, Slingshot, Lift, Moses, etc.) without a specific adapter. To build a complete setup you will need:

  • An AFS Fuselink fuselage — the V2 front wing bolts directly onto a Fuselink fuselage; this is the saddle/plate that connects to your mast
  • An AFS Fuselink-compatible mast — current AFS masts in UHM, HM and HR carbon, or aluminium HR
  • An AFS stabiliser — all current AFS stabs fit the Fuselink fuselage; choice of stab will affect pitch feel and low-speed lift

The Fuselink joint uses a precision-tapered conical socket clamped by two M8 Torx bolts. Load transfers through the carbon structure, not the bolts themselves — this is what gives the system its exceptional stiffness and the direct, feedback-rich feel that AFS is known for. Unlike the original monobloc Silk, the V2 wing can be unbolted and swapped — so one fuselage and mast can serve two or three different front wing sizes.

Construction

The Silk V2 is built using HR (High Resilience) carbon fibre over a Corecell closed-cell foam core. This is a different construction approach from the original Silk's all-UHM monobloc — HR carbon is slightly less stiff per unit weight than UHM, but the Corecell core adds impact resistance and prevents the kind of delamination that can occur with full-laminate wings in the event of a hard knock. The result is a wing that is still very light and very stiff, but built to handle the real-world wear of regular surf and winging sessions. Manufactured in France.

Pairs Well With

Why We Stock It

The Silk V2 solves one of the few criticisms of the original: the inability to swap sizes. Add the jump to AR 9, the extended size range, and the improved glide, and you have a wing that suits a much wider base of riders without losing any of the character that made the Silk special. Whether you are a dedicated surf foiler wanting a proper quiver or a wing foiler looking for your first high-performance front wing, the V2 has a size for you. We stock it because it is the kind of wing that changes how riders think about what a front wing should feel like.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between the Silk V2 and the original Silk?

Three key things: (1) The V2 has a removable (demountable) front wing — it bolts onto a Fuselink fuselage rather than being moulded as a fixed monobloc unit. (2) The V2 has a higher aspect ratio (~AR 9 vs AR 8.0 on the V1), giving more glide and pump efficiency. (3) The V2 comes in six sizes (650–1150 cm²) versus just two on the original (850 and 1050). Construction also differs: the V2 uses HR carbon with a Corecell core rather than all-UHM monobloc.

What is the AFS Fuselink system and do I need a specific fuselage?

Yes. The Silk V2 is designed exclusively for the AFS Fuselink ecosystem. The Fuselink is AFS's proprietary mast-to-fuselage connection — a precision-tapered conical socket clamped by two M8 Torx bolts that transfers load through the carbon structure for maximum stiffness. You will need an AFS Fuselink fuselage (the part that accepts the front wing and connects to the mast) plus an AFS Fuselink-compatible mast. It is not compatible with standard US box plate mounts or other brands' fuselage systems without a specific adapter.

What does the higher aspect ratio on the V2 actually change?

Aspect ratio (AR) is span squared divided by wing area. Moving from AR 8.0 (V1) to approximately AR 9 (V2) means the wing is proportionally longer and narrower. This reduces induced drag — the drag created as a byproduct of generating lift — which translates directly into better glide, more efficient pumping, and the ability to carry speed through flat spots. The trade-off is that higher-AR wings can feel slightly less forgiving in slow, technical situations, but the V2 has been tuned to retain the reassuring Silk feel.

Which size Silk V2 should I choose?

As a rough guide: 650–750 cm² for riders under 75 kg who want a performance wave or strong-wind wing; 850–950 cm² for most riders as an all-round surf and wing foil size; 1050–1150 cm² for lighter-wind winging, downwind sessions, or heavier riders who want more early lift. If you are unsure, contact us — we are happy to talk through your weight, conditions and riding style.

Can I use the Silk V2 for downwind foiling?

Yes, especially in the larger sizes. The higher AR and improved glide of the V2 make the 1050 and 1150 capable downwind wings. They are not a dedicated race or DW-specific design like the AFS Pure HA, but for combined wing and DW use they perform very well and many riders prefer having one wing that covers both disciplines.

Is the Silk V2 suitable for beginners?

The larger sizes (1050 and 1150) can work for confident intermediates who already have solid foil basics. The smaller sizes require good technique and are firmly in the intermediate-to-advanced bracket. If you are new to foiling, we would suggest starting with a higher-volume, lower-AR wing before stepping up to the Silk V2.
