The Carving Stabiliser That Doesn't Compromise on Glide

AFS built the U Carve Stabiliser around a simple idea: maximum surf feel, zero compromise on glide. Where most carving-oriented rear wings give up efficiency to gain pivot, the U Carve manages to do both. The secret is in the full-base concept — a generous footprint that locks in rigidity and precision, paired with a reduced wingspan and refined tips that completely free up roll. The result is a stabiliser that's sharp off the rail, flows through carves with real reach, and still glides cleanly between turns.

Four sizes — 130, 140, 150, and 160 cm² — mean there's a U Carve for every front wing pairing and riding style across the AFS foils range. Whether you're on a Silk 700 in clean surf or an Enduro 1100 in light onshore wind, the U Carve will energise the ride.

Who It's For

The U Carve is the stabiliser for wing foilers and surf foilers who want aggressive carving as their priority. It suits intermediate to advanced riders comfortable on foil and looking to sharpen their rail-to-rail transitions, tighten their carve radius, and pull more out of each turn. It pairs especially well with the AFS Silk, AFS Enduro, and AFS Performer front wings across wing foiling, downwind, and wave riding disciplines. The U Carve 150 is the one most riders start with — a genuinely versatile single-stab option that covers everything from freeride to committed surf sessions.

  • 100% made in France

On the Foil

The U Carve's character is best described as incisive. You tip the board on rail and it responds immediately — there's no delay, no softness, just the foil pivoting cleanly into the turn. The compressed wingspan means roll is completely unrestricted, so you can push the angle as far as your front wing will let you. But unlike some short, loose stabs that feel twitchy or hard to hold on edge, the U Carve's full-base footprint keeps the feel precise and controlled. You can really reach into a carve and hold it.

The 130 is for the rider who wants to push hardest — it's the most reactive and the quickest to release. The 140 adds a hair more support and is a great match for mid-sized front wings. The 150 is the Swiss Army knife of the range — surfy, playful, and capable across almost every condition. The 160 is the one to pick if you're on a larger front wing, ride heavy, or want more support in gusty conditions without losing the carving character.

Compatibility and Setup

The U Carve Stabiliser connects via the AFS Fuselink system, using two M6 screws to the fuselage. It is compatible with all current AFS Fuselink and EVO fuselages. Pre-2023 Alpha and Performer mast users will need the 2024 AFS Switch Fuselage for compatibility with current-generation components. The Fuselink system also allows you to adjust the stabiliser position along the fuselage to fine-tune pitch — moving it forward (closer to the front wing) sharpens response; moving it back softens the feel slightly.

Recommended front wing pairings: Silk 700–900, Enduro 700–1100, Performer 950–1450. The U Carve 150 is the most versatile across this range.

Construction

The U Carve is manufactured in full carbon at AFS's facility in France. The full-base design uses a carbon pre-preg layup for exceptional stiffness — critical for a stabiliser where direct, precise feedback is the whole point. There's no flex in the connection, no energy lost in the tips. What you put in comes straight back through the foil.

Size Guide

Size (cm²) Best For
130 Advanced riders, radical carving, smaller front wings (Silk 700–800), maximum looseness
140 Intermediate-advanced, mid-sized front wings, sharp feel with more support
150 Best all-round — works across most front wings and conditions, surfy and versatile
160 Larger riders, bigger front wings (Enduro 1100–1300), gusty conditions, more control

Why We Stock It

The U Carve is the stabiliser that comes up most in conversations at the shop when riders ask how to sharpen up their turning without going full high-aspect. It gives you real carving performance — the kind where you're actually driving the foil through the turn — without losing the glide that makes wing foiling and surf foiling so satisfying. The U Carve 150 in particular is one of the most practical single-stab purchases you can make.

FAQs

What do the U Carve size numbers mean?

130, 140, 150, and 160 refer to the surface area of the rear wing in cm². More surface area = more lift, stability, and support. Less surface area = looser, more pivoty feel. The 150 is the most popular all-round size for most riders and front wing combinations.

What's the difference between the U Carve and the U Surf stabiliser?

The U Carve is sharper and more incisive — it's tuned for fast turn initiation and maximum pivot, with a full-base design that keeps the feel precise and controlled. The U Surf is more forgiving, providing extra grip and confidence through committed turns. Both are surf-oriented, but the U Carve suits more experienced riders who want to push harder and faster through their carves.

Is the U Carve compatible with my AFS fuselage?

Yes — the U Carve is fully compatible with all AFS Fuselink and EVO fuselages via two M6 screws. If you have a pre-2023 Alpha or Performer mast, you'll need the 2024 AFS Switch Fuselage. Drop us a message if you're not sure — we'll check compatibility for your specific mast and fuselage.

Which U Carve size should I start with?

The 150 cm² is the right starting point for most riders. It's the most versatile size in the range — surfy and reactive enough to be satisfying on the rail, but supportive enough to work across a wide range of front wings and conditions. Move to 140 or 130 when you want to push harder; step up to 160 if you're on a larger front wing or ride heavy.

Can I use the U Carve for downwind foiling?

The U Carve can be used in downwind setups where you still want to prioritise carving and manoeuvring — it maintains good glide between turns. However, if your primary goal is pumping efficiency and maximum glide in downwind conditions, the AFS U Glide stabiliser is the better tool, with its high-aspect profile optimised for exactly that purpose.

What front wings pair best with the U Carve?

The U Carve works well with the AFS Silk range (700–900 cm²), the AFS Enduro range (700–1100 cm²), and the AFS Performer range. The 130–140 suits smaller, faster front wings; the 150 is the versatile mid-range match; and the 160 suits larger front wings or riders wanting more support. A rough guide: stab area should be around 15–20% of front wing area.
