Description

The Naish Fish is a short, wide, strapless-only kite surfboard built around a classic fish outline. Part of the Naish 2026 surfboard range, it is designed to carry speed and glide in small to medium surf, draw effortless arcs, and handle tight, snappy turns — all without footstraps. Two sizes — 5'2 and 5'5 — keep the range compact, and the shape works equally well as a travel board for surf trips where you want one board to kite and surf on.

Construction uses UC Carbon strips on both the top and bottom deck, bamboo reinforcement through the stance area and rail reinforcement where the board takes the most load. The result is a board that is notably stiffer and more responsive than entry-level foam builds while staying light enough to feel nimble. A flat, fast rocker keeps glide and speed through the water, and the wide swallow tail with compact outline makes the board very reactive to weight shifts. The full deck pad is included — corduroy on the front two pieces for grip and feel, diamond-embossed rear pad with arch grip and tail kick.

Who It's For

The Fish is aimed at riders who come from a surf background and want to ride strapless, or anyone looking for one board that works both kiting and surfing on a trip. It is best suited to small to medium surf — head-high or under — where its flat rocker and wide body let it generate and maintain speed. It is not a heavy-weather board; if you regularly kite in big, powerful surf you would be better served by a more rocker-heavy pin-tail directional like the Naish Global.

Key Features

  • UC Carbon strips top and bottom — lightweight, responsive laminate that adds stiffness and liveliness without excess weight
  • Bamboo reinforcement through stance zone — durable impact resistance in the area that takes the most load
  • Rail reinforcement — extra protection along the edges where sustained pressure occurs during carves
  • Wide swallow tail — provides a combination of drive through turns and release at the tail for a lively, reactive feel
  • Flat, fast rocker — generates glide and planing speed early, ideal for lighter winds and smaller surf
  • Future fin boxes (twin + trailer) — ride as a twin for loose, snappy turns or add the optional trailer fin for added hold and drive
  • Strapless design — no strap inserts; built for pure strapless kite surfing and surfing
  • Full deck pad included — corduroy front pieces and diamond-embossed rear pad with arch grip and tail kick

Real-World Feel

In the water, the Fish lives up to its shape: loose, fast and fun in small-to-medium surf. The flat rocker means it gets on a plane and stays there, which is particularly useful when the kite is depowered or the wind is inconsistent. The wide body and swallow tail give you a board that responds quickly to heel-and-toe weighting, so turns feel snappy and connected rather than drawn out. Ridden twin-fin only, it is intentionally loose — it slides and drifts at the tail in a way that suits a surfy, free-flowing style. Add the optional trailer fin and you get noticeably more hold through a turn and better tracking upwind if you need it. For riders coming off a twintip, it requires patience with technique — you cannot throw your weight around the same way — but the payoff in feel is genuine.

Setup and Fit

The Fish is strapless only — there are no strap insert holes, so riding with footstraps is not possible on this board. The Future fin boxes run a twin-fin configuration with an additional centre box for an optional trailer fin; the fins are included with the board. Ride it as a twin for maximum looseness and a true fish feel, or drop in the trailer fin for more drive, hold and upwind performance. No pads or straps need to be sourced separately.

Materials and Construction

The Fish 2026 uses a UC Carbon strip laminate on the top and bottom deck — the same proven layup found across the Naish 2026 surfboard range. Carbon strips add directional stiffness and response without the cost or fragility of a full carbon construction. Bamboo reinforcement runs through the stance zone for impact resistance, and additional rail reinforcement runs along the edges where carving loads are highest. The construction was rigorously tested to achieve a balance of flex, light weight and durability.

Size Guide

Size Best For
5'2 Lighter riders (up to ~75 kg), smaller surf, maximum agility and loose feel
5'5 Heavier riders or those wanting more volume for marginal winds and slightly bigger surf

With only two sizes available, most riders will find their fit based primarily on body weight and the surf conditions they ride most. Lighter riders in small, punchy surf will get the most from the 5'2; heavier riders or those who kite in more variable, lighter winds should opt for the 5'5 for better glide and float. If you surf and kite roughly the same body-weight-appropriate shortboard size, stick with your usual length.

Pairs Well With

The Fish works best with a surf or wave-oriented kite that allows slack-line surfing and quick depowering — this keeps the board feeling like a surfboard rather than a kite-driven machine. A smaller kite size (9–11 m) in decent breeze also suits the Fish well. Connect via a bar and lines set up for surf kiting, ideally with shorter lines for tighter, more responsive kite control. Browse the complete kitesurfing range or explore the rest of the kite surfboard range to compare options.

Why We Stock It

There is a growing number of riders on the Wirral and across the North West who want to ride strapless, and the Fish is one of the most approachable boards to do it on — the wide body, flat rocker and twin-fin feel lower the barrier compared with narrower performance directionals. The fact that it doubles as a travel surfboard makes it even more practical. It is a board we are happy to recommend to anyone making the move from twintip to strapless surfing.

FAQs

Is the Naish Fish 2026 strapless only?

Yes. The Naish Fish has no footstrap insert holes and is designed exclusively for strapless kite surfing (and surfing). If you want a directional board you can also ride with straps, look at other boards in the Naish surfboard range.

What fins come with the Naish Fish 2026?

The Fish comes with large twin fins for the Future fin boxes, and an optional trailer fin for the centre box. You can ride it as a twin-fin for a loose, surfy feel, or add the trailer fin for more hold and upwind drive.

What is the difference between the Naish Fish and the Naish Global?

The Fish is shorter, wider and designed for small-to-medium surf with a flat rocker for glide and speed — it is strapless only. The Global is a more performance-oriented thruster (fins not included) with a pin tail, V-bottom and rocker tuned for bigger, more powerful side-on and onshore conditions, and it can be ridden with footstraps.

Can I use the Naish Fish 2026 as a regular surfboard without a kite?

Yes. The fish outline and twin-fin setup translate well to pure surfing, which makes it a practical travel board. It is built specifically with kiting in mind but the shape performs in surf without a kite.

Which size Naish Fish should I choose?

The 5'2 suits lighter riders (up to around 75 kg) and smaller, punchier surf. The 5'5 is the better choice for heavier riders or anyone who wants more glide in lighter or more marginal conditions. If you are on the borderline, go up a size.

Is the Naish Fish 2026 good for light winds?

The flat rocker and wide outline do help generate early planing and maintain glide when the wind is soft, which makes the Fish more useful in lighter conditions than a more rockered directional. That said, it is not a dedicated light-wind board — for that, a twintip like the Naish Traverse EJ will outperform it in very marginal wind.
