Description
The Naish Hatch | Parawing is a handles-free foil kite for downwind riding, wave linking and pump-powered foiling sessions. Unlike a traditional wing, you steer the Hatch by shifting body weight and adjusting pressure through the bar — your hands are on the bar, not gripping handles or a boom. Part of the Naish 2026 range, the Hatch is built for riders who want to explore the parawing discipline with a kite that goes upwind well, relaunches cleanly and stays light when wet. Available in five sizes from 1.9 m to 5.1 m, all in Red.
Sold as the parawing only. Lines, bar and any board or foil are not included — see our wing foiling and foilboard ranges for compatible setups.
Who It's For
Foilers who want to explore parawinging — downwinders, pump-and-glide sessions, wave riding without a handheld wing in the way. The Hatch suits intermediate foilers who already have a solid pump and can sustain flight, and is Naish's more accessible entry into the parawing category: the colour-coding, stiff lines and reflexed profile reduce the friction of learning compared to less forgiving designs. It is not a beginner's first foiling tool — you need an established foil base before parawinging makes sense.
Key Features
- SkyTex 32 Hard canopy — sheds water on relaunch rather than soaking it up; keeps the wing light and responsive after it hits the surface
- Naturally reflexed profile — resists collapse in gusts and while depowered; delivers exceptional depower range and upwind penetration
- Cross-bridle system — holds the wing shape during pumps for consistent power delivery without the accordion collapse that can occur on simpler bridle designs
- Super-stiff sheathed lines — prevents tangling and wear; lines hold their shape and sort themselves out more easily than soft, unsheathed alternatives
- Colour-coded lines, bar, canopy and leading edge — every level of the bridle and the canopy are colour-matched so you can identify orientation and clear tangles fast, even on the water
- EVA-covered carbon bar — lightweight and stiff bar with padded grip; carbon keeps weight down
- Five individually tuned sizes — each size (1.9 m to 5.1 m) is separately optimised for its wind range and packed volume, not scaled from a single template
- Light bar pressure — comfortable to ride for extended sessions; harness optional rather than essential
Real-World Feel
Riding a parawing is different from wingfoiling. The wing is overhead and behind you — you are not holding it out to the side — and steering happens through the bar and body movement rather than hand position on a handle. The Hatch's reflexed profile means it sits in the air predictably; it does not surge forward or collapse in the lulls the way some parawings do when you depower. Relaunch is cleaner than most parawings in the class — the SkyTex sheds water quickly and the colour-coded system gets you sorted in seconds rather than spending minutes pulling soggy lines apart. Upwind performance is genuinely strong; you can work back upwind on the Hatch without the slow, grind-heavy angles that less efficient parawings force on you.
Setup and Fit
The Hatch is set up like a kite — lay out lines, attach bar, launch. The colour-coding eliminates the guesswork on which line goes where. Each size packs to a compact volume, small enough to fit in a kiteboard-sized bag. The bar and lines are included with the wing. Check that lines are clear and sorted before launching; the stiff sheathed lines make this significantly faster than with soft lines.
Compatible with any foil setup. Works best with a fast, efficient foil — the bigger and more efficient the foil, the lighter the wind you can ride and the longer you can glide between pumps.
Materials and Construction
Canopy: SkyTex 32 Hard — lightweight, water-shedding ripstop. Bridle: stiff, sheathed lines with cross-bridle configuration. Bar: EVA-covered carbon. Profile: naturally reflexed for passive stability. Construction notes: lightweight fabric chosen for minimum pack volume and weight. Colour-coded at every level of the bridle system and canopy.
Size Guide
Wind ranges below are approximate guidance — actual range depends on rider weight, foil speed, and conditions. When in doubt, size up in the UK's variable coastal winds.
| Size | Approx. Wind Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 1.9 m | 22–35+ kn | Strong/gusty days; experienced riders; small efficient foils |
| 2.7 m | 18–28 kn | Powered sessions in solid wind; intermediate to advanced |
| 3.5 m | 15–24 kn | Most versatile size; broad wind range; all-round choice |
| 4.3 m | 12–20 kn | Light-to-moderate winds; efficient foils; progressing riders |
| 5.1 m | 10–16 kn | Lightest wind option; light riders and efficient high-AR foils |
The 3.5 m is the most versatile size for UK coastal sessions. Heavier riders or those on less efficient foils should size up. If you are unsure, contact us — we can advise based on your foil, weight and typical local conditions.
Pairs Well With
The Hatch works with any foiling setup from our foilboard range — higher aspect foils let you ride lighter winds and glide longer between pumps. Also see the rest of the Naish 2026 range including the Naish Neutron and Chimera wings if you are exploring different wing formats alongside parawinging. Why We Stock It
Parawinging is the fastest-growing part of foiling right now, and the Hatch is the most approachable way into the discipline that we have tested. The SkyTex canopy, stiff lines and colour-coding genuinely reduce the frustration of learning — less time wrestling soggy lines, more time on the foil. Naish's upwind performance claim holds up: on the Wirral we can get back upwind on the Hatch in conditions where other parawings leave you walking back up the beach.
FAQs
What is the difference between the Naish Hatch Parawing and a wing?
A wing is held in your hands and steered by arm position. The Naish Hatch Parawing is an overhead kite steered via a bar and body weight — your hands hold a bar, not the kite itself. You ride with both hands on the bar and control power and direction by bar pressure and body movement. This frees up your riding to feel more like surfing or kitesurfing, but you need foiling and pump skills before parawinging.
What size Naish Hatch Parawing should I choose?
The 3.5 m is the most popular all-round size for moderate UK coastal winds (15–24 kn). Lighter riders or those with high-aspect foils can go down a size; heavier riders or those with smaller foils should size up. If you regularly ride in 20+ kn wind, consider the 2.7 m. Contact us if you are unsure — we can match you to a size based on your foil, weight and local conditions.
Is the Naish Hatch Parawing suitable for beginners?
No — parawinging requires an established foiling and pump base. You need to be able to sustain foil flight on a pump before the Hatch makes sense. Once you have that, the Hatch is one of the more forgiving parawings to learn on, thanks to its reflexed profile and colour-coded lines.
Does the Naish Hatch Parawing require a harness?
No. Bar pressure on the Hatch is designed to be light enough to ride without a harness for most sessions. A harness can be added for longer sessions or stronger winds if preferred.
What is included with the Naish Hatch Parawing?
The parawing, bar, and lines are included. Board, foil, and leash are not included and must be purchased separately.
Can I use the Naish Hatch Parawing for downwinding?
Yes — downwinding is one of the Hatch's primary use cases. The combination of upwind performance and light bar pressure makes it well suited to downwind runs where you alternate between parawing power and pump-and-glide sections.
