Description
The Sabfoil Sea Devil Hydrofoil Range is a modular 2-in-1 foil built with a full carbon monocoque design, available in 840, 1040 and 1240cm² as a standalone front wing or complete kit with the Kraken 83cm mast. Its defining feature is a two-mode riding system: fit the stabiliser for a stable, controlled Tail Mode, or remove it for a raw, ultra-reactive Raw Mode — one foil, two distinctly different rides.
Because it uses a monocoque construction rather than a separate fuselage, the Sea Devil is built to be direct and low-drag by design. As part of Sabfoil's foil kit range, it suits wing, surf, downwind, SUP and kite foiling.
Who It's For
- Discipline: Wing, surf, downwind, SUP and kite foiling
- Level: Progressing riders in Tail Mode; advanced riders wanting Raw Mode's reactive feel
- Best for: Riders who want one foil that can switch between a stable freeride platform and a loose, surfy setup
Key Features
- Tail Mode – add the stabiliser for increased stability, smooth carving, forgiving transitions, ideal for progressing and freeriding
- Raw Mode – remove the stabiliser for extremely agile, tight-radius, surf-style carving with direct energy transfer
- 840 – 2,122cm² surface, compact and ultra-reactive, best for light riders or advanced riders wanting maximum agility, 12–25 knot wind range
- 1040 – ~2,650cm² surface, smoother and more forgiving than the 840 with early lift and efficient glide
- 1240 – ~3,150cm² surface, the easiest and most accessible size, extremely early lift for downwinders, small surf and marginal conditions
- Full carbon monocoque – AR 3.3 across the range, direct feel with minimal drag
Real-World Feel
Switching between Tail and Raw Mode takes minutes and genuinely changes how the foil rides — Tail Mode gives a familiar, confident platform good for first sessions or cruising in light wind, while Raw Mode strips the tail away for a surfskate-like directness that experienced riders use to carve, pivot and slash. The 840 is explosive and tight-turning, suited to light riders or advanced riders chasing agility; the 1040 smooths things out considerably while staying reactive; the 1240 prioritises easy, stable glide, making it the most forgiving size and a good way to learn Raw Mode without it feeling twitchy.
Setup / Fit
Fit the stabiliser for Tail Mode or remove it for Raw Mode — no extra parts are needed to switch. If buying the standalone wing, confirm your existing setup is compatible before ordering; the complete kit includes the Kraken 83cm mast. Choose 840 for maximum agility, 1040 for a balanced all-rounder, or 1240 for the easiest, most stable ride.
Materials
- Construction: full carbon monocoque, no separate fuselage
- Aspect ratio: 3.3 across the range
- Kit mast: Kraken 83cm

Pairs Well With
If you choose the standalone wing, you'll need a compatible Kraken mast to complete the setup.
Why We Stock It
We stock the Sea Devil because the Tail/Raw Mode switch is a genuinely useful bit of design, not a gimmick — it means one foil can cover both a confident learning platform and a loose, advanced setup as your riding develops, rather than needing two separate foils.
FAQs
What is the Sabfoil Sea Devil Hydrofoil Range?
The Sabfoil Sea Devil is a modular 2-in-1 full carbon monocoque hydrofoil, available in 840, 1040 and 1240cm², that switches between a stable Tail Mode (with stabiliser) and an agile Raw Mode (without).
What's the difference between Tail Mode and Raw Mode?
Tail Mode fits the stabiliser for a stable, forgiving, confident ride suited to progressing riders. Raw Mode removes the stabiliser for a loose, surf-style, ultra-reactive feel suited to experienced riders.
What size Sea Devil should I buy?
The 840 is compact and agile for light or advanced riders; the 1040 is smoother and more forgiving; the 1240 is the easiest and most accessible, with the earliest lift for marginal conditions.
Is the Sea Devil good for beginners?
In Tail Mode, yes — it's stable and confidence-inspiring, particularly the 1040 and 1240 sizes. Raw Mode is better suited to more experienced riders wanting maximum agility.
What is the Sabfoil Sea Devil made from?
It's built from a full carbon monocoque with no separate fuselage, giving an aspect ratio of 3.3 and a direct, low-drag feel across all three sizes.
