Description

The Mystic Motion Longarm Shorty 3/2mm Fzip 2026 is a full-arm, short-leg spring suit built for kitesurfers, wingfoilers and SUP riders who want serious coverage on the arms without the heat of a full suit. Priced at £199.95, it sits at the mid-premium end of the Motion range — not an entry-level suit, but not a luxury price either. It earns its place by combining MX3 neoprene with Fox Fleece chest and back lining, GBS seam construction and a YKK front zip: a genuinely performance-focused build at a sensible number.

In terms of cut, this is a longarm shorty — arms run the full length to the wrists, legs are cut off at mid-thigh. That makes it the right call for kitesurfing and wingfoiling where your arms are constantly in the wind and water, and heat loss through unprotected forearms adds up fast. As part of the Mystic Motion wetsuits line, it shares the same core construction as the 4/3mm and 5/3mm Motion fullsuits — same neoprene, same linings, same seams — just cut for warmer water.

Who It's For

  • Discipline: Kitesurfing, wingfoiling, pumpfoiling, SUP
  • Level: Beginner to advanced
  • Best for: Spring and early summer sessions; warm travel destinations year-round
  • Water temp range: Approximately 16–22°C (60–72°F) — comfortable in mid-summer Irish Sea with a pair of boots, or barefoot in warmer southern waters

Key Features

  • MX3 Neoprene – Mystic's mid-range closed-cell foam; good warmth-to-weight ratio and consistent stretch
  • Fox Fleece chest and back lining – dense, warm thermal fleece on the core where you need it most; quick to warm up against your skin
  • Eco XTR recycled lining on limbs – high-stretch broken lining on the arms and short legs; easier to pull on than flat neoprene and more eco-conscious
  • GBS seams (Glued Blind Stitched) – seams are glued and blind stitched so the needle never penetrates the outer skin; significantly reduces water ingress versus flatlock
  • 100% Waterproof Stretch Taping – applied at all critical seam areas to back up the GBS stitching and eliminate cold flushes
  • YKK Front Zip (Fzip) – quality zip with a reliable close; front zip position frees up the back panel for maximum flex and avoids that distracting pressure point when harness-loading
  • Aquabarrier – silicone print on the collarbone area forms a seal between the overlapping front-zip panels, preventing water entering at the chest
  • Aquaflush 2.0 – one-way neoprene structure that allows water to drain out but resists ingress from outside; reduces the amount of water sitting against your skin
  • Glideskin neck – smooth, non-stitched neoprene at the collar forms a snug seal without irritating your neck on long sessions
  • Hex-tech kneepads (4-way stretch) – reinforced panels on the knees that flex with you rather than restricting movement; useful if you're board-starting, launching in the shallows or on your knees on a SUP
  • Key Pocket 2.0 – internal key loop with a mini buckle clip; stores a car key securely without a bulky external pocket
  • Non-slip wrist cuffs – grippy inner cuffs keep the suit in place and help seal the wrists against flush
  • 3D pre-curved panel construction – panels are shaped to follow a natural riding posture, reducing bunching at the knees and elbows

Real-World Feel

On the water, the Motion Longarm Shorty feels noticeably more flexible than older GBS suits of the same price bracket — the MX3 foam and the Eco XTR arm lining contribute to that. Entry through the front zip is straightforward: roll the panel back, step in legs first, pull the arms on, fold the zip panel flat and close. Once zipped, the Aquabarrier at the chest does its job and you're not getting a chest-full of water on the first crash. The Fox Fleece core warms up quickly, which matters on a cold spring morning when you're waiting on the beach. Arms are unrestricted through a full kite loop or a wing gybe. The short legs mean no neoprene bunching behind the knees, and you're not roasting on the walk back up the beach. The Glideskin neck keeps a seal without being constrictive — important on longer sessions where irritation builds up. The wrist cuffs could be snugger on narrower wrists, but they do the job. Overall this is a suit you stop thinking about fairly quickly, which is exactly what you want.

Setup & Fit

Front-zip entry: Lay the suit flat, unzip fully and fold the zip panel back. Step in legs first, pull the short legs to mid-thigh, then work the arms on one at a time — the Eco XTR lining slides on cleanly. Once both arms are on, fold the inner flap flat across your chest and close the YKK zip from bottom to top. Give the Aquabarrier panel a smooth press to seat it properly.

Sizing: Mystic suits run fairly true to size but fit close — this is a performance fit, not a relaxed cut. If you're between sizes, go up if you've got a broad chest or long arms; the short legs aren't adjustable. The longarm cut means arm length matters more in this suit than in a standard shorty, so check your height and chest together.

Materials

  • Outer shell: MX3 neoprene (3mm core / 2mm limbs)
  • Chest and back lining: Fox Fleece (thermal, warm)
  • Arm and short-leg lining: Eco XTR recycled broken lining (high stretch, eco-conscious)
  • Seam construction: GBS (Glued Blind Stitched) throughout
  • Taping: 100% Waterproof Stretch Tape at critical seam junctions
  • Zip: YKK front zip
  • Neck: Glideskin smooth neoprene
  • Kneepads: Hex-tech 4-way stretch

Size Chart

Size Height (cm) Chest (cm) Waist (cm)
XS 164–169 85–89 70–75
S 170–175 89–94 75–80
M 176–182 94–99 80–85
L 183–188 99–104 85–90
XL 188–193 104–109 90–95
XXL 193–198 109–114 95–100

Measure chest at its widest point and waist at its narrowest. If in doubt between sizes, size up — neoprene that's too tight restricts movement and flushes more, not less.

Pairs Well With

  • Wetsuit boots and gloves — in Irish Sea spring conditions (14–17°C) a pair of 3mm boots and thin gloves will extend your session considerably; the suit's short legs leave the ankle exposed so boots are particularly useful
  • Changing mat and dry robe — the shorty pulls on and off faster than a fullsuit but you'll still want a clean surface to change on and something warm to get into afterwards

Why We Stock It

We're a rider-owned shop on the Wirral, and the Motion Longarm Shorty earns its place in our range because it fits a real gap. The Irish Sea runs cold enough in spring that a standard shorty leaves your forearms exposed and you end up cold before the session's done. A full 3/2mm is an option but can be overkill from late June through August on a good day. This suit is the answer: arms covered, core covered, legs free, and a build quality that doesn't compromise. We ride these waters ourselves and we wouldn't put something on the shelf that doesn't do the job.

FAQs

What exactly is a longarm shorty wetsuit?

A longarm shorty (also called a long-sleeve shorty or long-arm spring suit) has full-length arms that run all the way to the wrists, combined with short legs that end at roughly mid-thigh. This cuts a middle path between a standard shorty (short arms and short legs) and a fullsuit (full arms and full legs). You get upper body and arm coverage where heat loss is significant in wind and water, with the freedom and comfort of bare lower legs.

What's the difference between this and the Mystic Motion Shorty 3/2mm Fzip?

The Motion Shorty 3/2mm (£169.95) has short arms as well as short legs — it's essentially a 3/2mm spring suit designed for warmer water where you don't need arm coverage. The Motion Longarm Shorty 3/2mm (this suit, £199.95) has the same short legs but adds full-length arms to the wrists. The £30 difference gets you substantially better thermal protection through the arms and less wind chill on exposed forearms. For kitesurfing and wingfoiling in UK or northern European waters, the Longarm Shorty is the more versatile choice through most of the spring and summer season.

What water temperature is this suit designed for?

A 3/2mm suit is generally rated for approximately 16–22°C (61–72°F). In UK and Irish Sea conditions, that covers late May through early September on a reasonable year. Below 16°C you'll likely want a 4/3mm fullsuit, or this suit paired with 3mm boots and light gloves to extend the range down to around 14°C. Above 22°C this suit may feel warm — that's when the standard Motion Shorty makes more sense.

Is the front zip (Fzip) actually better than a back zip?

For active watersports, yes — generally. The front zip leaves the entire back panel unseamed and untaped, which means maximum flex through the spine and shoulders when you're carving or flying a wing. The downside is that entry takes a moment to master (you're folding a panel flat across your chest rather than reaching behind your head). Once you're used to it, most riders prefer it. The Aquabarrier on the chest stops the overlapping panels from letting water in.

Do I need boots and gloves with this suit?

In mid-summer UK conditions (18°C+) you may not need them. In spring and early autumn (14–17°C), a pair of 3mm wetsuit boots will make a meaningful difference. The short legs on this suit leave your ankles exposed, so boots also help there. Thin 1.5mm gloves are worth having for early season sessions when the wind chill on wet hands is significant.

How should I care for this wetsuit to make it last?

Rinse it in fresh water after every session — salt degrades neoprene and glue over time. Dry it inside-out in the shade (UV breaks down neoprene faster than anything). Never tumble dry or hang it from a shoulder hanger; fold it over a rail or use a wide wetsuit hanger. Avoid neoprene-hostile products like petrol-based solvents or oil-based sunscreens directly on the suit. Store it loosely folded or flat, not compressed in a bag.
