Description

The Sabfoil Blackbird Fuselage is a high-strength aluminium backtail fuselage for the Blackbird hydrofoil system, available in Short, Medium and Long to tune pitch stability and pumping feel. Same mast and wing, different fuselage length — it's one of the simplest ways to change how a Blackbird foil turns and glides without buying a whole new setup.

The Blackbird system uses a modular, two-screw connection standard across the entire Sabfoil gliders line, so this fuselage bolts straight onto compatible Blackbird masts, front wings and stabilisers without extra hardware. Shorter fuselages sit the stabiliser closer to the front wing for a looser, more agile feel; longer fuselages spread the wings further apart for more pitch stability and glide.

Who It's For

  • Discipline: Any Blackbird-system foiling — wing, downwind, prone or pump
  • Level: Riders who already own a Blackbird setup and want to fine-tune the feel
  • Best for: Dialling in turning agility versus pitch stability without changing your front wing or mast

Key Features

  • High-strength aluminium construction – durable backtail fuselage built to handle repeated mounting and dismounting
  • Three lengths (S/M/L) – shorter for agility and quicker turns, longer for stability and glide
  • Two-screw modular fit – part of the shared Blackbird hardware standard, so swaps are quick
  • Compatible across the Blackbird range – works with Blackbird masts, front wings and stabilisers

Real-World Feel

Swapping fuselage length is one of the most underrated tuning tools in hydrofoiling — you don't need to buy a new wing to change how a foil behaves. Go shorter and the foil feels snappier and more willing to turn, at the cost of a bit of pitch stability at speed. Go longer and you get a calmer, more locked-in ride with better glide, at the cost of some agility in tight turns. For riders still working out their preferred setup, having S/M/L on hand to experiment with is worth more than agonising over wing choice alone.

Setup / Fit

The fuselage bolts between the mast and the front wing/stabiliser using the Blackbird system's standard two-screw hardware. Start with the Medium length if you're unsure, then move to Short for more agile turning or Long for more stability once you know which way you want to tune your setup.

Materials

  • Construction: high-strength aluminium (Backtail Alu)
  • Connection: Blackbird two-screw modular system
  • Lengths: Short, Medium, Long

Size Chart

Length Character Price
Short (S) Looser, more agile £134
Medium (M) Balanced £134
Long (L) More stable, glide-focused £134

Pairs Well With

You'll need a compatible mast and front wing/stabiliser from the Blackbird range to complete your foil.

Why We Stock It

We stock all three fuselage lengths because tuning a foil isn't just about front wing choice — fuselage length has a real, noticeable effect on turning agility and pitch stability. Having S/M/L in stock means riders can experiment with their existing Blackbird setup rather than being locked into whatever length came in their original kit.

FAQs

What is the Sabfoil Blackbird Fuselage?

The Sabfoil Blackbird Fuselage is a high-strength aluminium backtail fuselage for the Blackbird hydrofoil system, available in Short, Medium and Long lengths to tune turning agility versus pitch stability.

What does fuselage length change on a hydrofoil?

A shorter fuselage brings the stabiliser closer to the front wing for quicker, more agile turning; a longer fuselage spreads them further apart for more pitch stability and smoother glide at speed.

Which Blackbird fuselage length should I choose?

Start with Medium if you're unsure. Choose Short if you want a more playful, agile feel, or Long if you want more stability and glide, especially at higher speed or on downwind runs.

What is the Sabfoil Blackbird Fuselage made from?

It's built from high-strength aluminium, using the Blackbird system's two-screw modular connection standard.

Is the Blackbird Fuselage compatible with all Blackbird wings and masts?

Yes — it uses the shared Blackbird two-screw hardware standard, so it's compatible with Blackbird masts, front wings and stabilisers across the range.
