Description
The Slingshot Crisis V8 is the board that does it all without drama. Smooth, forgiving, and genuinely fun from first session to flat-water mission, it's the twin-tip that Slingshot has spent years refining into a no-compromise all-rounder — and the V8 is the best iteration yet.
Whether you're working towards your first jumps, chasing butter-smooth freeride laps, or just want a reliable freestyle kiteboard that handles whatever the Irish Sea throws at it, the Crisis V8 delivers consistent, confidence-building performance across every wind range and chop condition.
Who It's For
- Discipline: Freeride / All-round freestyle
- Level: Beginner through to intermediate-advanced
- Best for: Riders who want one board that handles everything — flat water, chop, transitions, jumps, and the odd dark slide
Key Features
- Atomic Wood Core (sustainably grown Paulownia, vertically laminated) — lively, springy response with consistent flex from tip to tail; the vertical lamination locks in durability without killing the feel
- Single-Concave Hull — channels water cleanly underneath for predictable tracking, excellent upwind performance, and stable landings
- Singleshot Fusion Sidewall — high-durometer urethane rail infused into the core in a single manufacturing shot; absorbs chop and impact far better than bonded sidewalls
- Carbon Bedrock Inserts — carbon-reinforced inserts reduce overall board weight while maintaining strong pull resistance and consistent underfoot flex
- Duralight Base (0.2 mm) — optimised strength-to-weight ratio; light enough to feel lively, tough enough for regular use in rocky launch conditions
- Forgiving medium flex — absorbs chop and hard landings rather than transmitting them into your knees; suits UK coastal conditions where swell and texture are the norm
- Mild rocker profile — keeps the board planing early and driving upwind efficiently; you'll spend more time riding and less time bodydragging back to the beach
Real-World Feel
The Crisis V8 rides bigger than its spec sheet suggests. The Paulownia core gives it that springy, alive feeling underfoot — it's not a dead slab — but the medium flex takes the sting out of chop so your knees and back thank you at the end of a long session on a lumpy day at West Kirby or Rhosneigr. Upwind tracking is a genuine strength: the single-concave locks in and pulls you back to the launch without fighting the kite. Pop is real and usable rather than aggressive — you get enough height for grabs and handle passes without the board pitching you off-axis. Honest assessment: if you want a competition-spec freestyle monster, look at the Slingshot Asylum. But if you want a board you'll reach for every session regardless of conditions, the Crisis V8 is it.
Setup / Fit
The Crisis V8 ships with four 1.75" fins — mount all four for maximum upwind grip and stability in chop, or experiment with two fins in lighter winds for a looser, more playful feel. Footstraps are not included; pair with your preferred strap setup (see our footstraps collection). Stance width is adjustable via the standard Slingshot insert pattern. Size selection: lighter or smaller riders and those in lighter winds should size down; if you're riding in gusty or powered-up conditions on the Wirral coast, the mid-range 137–141 cm sizes are the sweet spot for most adults. Heavier riders or those who like to cruise on less power will appreciate the 146 or 151.

Pairs Well With
- Slingshot kites — the Crisis V8 is optimised around Slingshot's kite range; the RPM and UFO pair particularly well for all-round riding
- Kitesurfing accessories — pads, straps, impact vests, and everything else you need for a full session
Why We Stock It
We're a rider-owned shop on the Wirral — we know what UK kitesurfing actually looks like. It's side-shore at West Kirby in 18 knots of thermic breeze with a foot of chop, or a rare clean day in Wales that you absolutely cannot waste. You need a board that works hard across a huge range of conditions without demanding perfection from the rider. The Crisis V8 is exactly that. Slingshot have been refining this shape for years and the V8 represents genuine progression in construction quality — the Singleshot Fusion sidewall alone is a meaningful improvement in how the board absorbs rough water. We stock it because we'd ride it ourselves, and that's the only reason we ever add anything to the shop.
FAQs
Is the Slingshot Crisis V8 suitable for beginners?
Yes — the forgiving medium flex, mild rocker, and single-concave hull make it one of the most approachable twin-tips in the Slingshot range. It rewards beginners with easy upwind tracking and soft landings, while remaining genuinely enjoyable for more experienced riders who don't want an aggressive freestyle-only board.
Does the Crisis V8 come with footstraps?
No. The board ships with four 1.75" fins and a grab handle, but footstraps are sold separately. Browse our footstraps collection or get in touch and we'll recommend a set that suits your riding style.
How do I choose between the Crisis V8 and the Slingshot Formula?
The Formula is a higher-performance freestyle board aimed at riders pushing advanced tricks — more pop, stiffer feel, more demanding underfoot. The Crisis V8 is the all-rounder: more forgiving, better suited to mixed conditions and all-day riding. If you're progressing through intermediate freestyle, the Crisis V8 is the smarter starting point.
What size Crisis V8 should I get?
For most adult riders in UK coastal conditions (typically 12–20 knots), the 137 cm or 141 cm sizes cover the majority of sessions. Lighter riders (under 70 kg) or those riding consistently powered up can go smaller; heavier riders or anyone wanting more early-plane performance in lighter winds should look at the 146 or 151 cm. When in doubt, drop us a message — we know these boards and we know UK conditions.
Is the Crisis V8 good for flat-water freestyle tricks?
It has enough pop and edge grip for grabs, handle passes, and intermediate freestyle, and Slingshot's own copy references dark slides specifically. It's not a dedicated competition freestyle board — for that, look at the Slingshot Asylum — but it handles real-world freestyle riding confidently.
What fins does the Crisis V8 use?
The board ships with four 1.75" standard Slingshot fins. These sit in the board's moulded fin boxes and are straightforward to swap if you want to experiment with different fin configurations or sizes.
