Description
The 2026 Naish Odyssey DW is the composite-construction entry into Naish's dedicated downwind foil board range. Built for downwind foiling from the ground up, it's available in four volumes — 90L, 110L, 125L and 140L (7'2" to 8'10") — and shares the same hull geometry as the premium Nvision model but uses EPS composite construction rather than hollow carbon.
The Odyssey DW is the board that makes sense for most riders coming to downwinding: it has the right shape for the discipline, a 16" foil track for broad adjustment range, and it comes in at a price point that doesn't require full commitment to downwinding as a primary discipline. The 140L adds a size the Nvision doesn't offer — useful for heavier riders or those in conditions where more platform means more time on the water rather than swimming back to it.
Who It's For
The Odyssey DW suits riders who want to get into downwind foiling seriously without the hollow-carbon price tag, and those who need the extra volume the 140L offers. It's capable enough that it won't hold back a skilled rider; it's forgiving enough that someone new to downwinding will find the 125L or 140L a manageable and productive learning platform. For riders who get bitten by downwinding and want to upgrade to the Nvision later, the Odyssey DW is an honest first step rather than a compromise they'll regret.
Key Features
- EPS composite construction — durable, impact-resistant, practically priced; same outline geometry as the premium Nvision
- 16" foil track — wide fore/aft adjustment range to fine-tune mast position for different foils and conditions (longer than the Nvision's 15")
- Displacement nose — flows into a concave sharp lower rail for clean water entry and efficient takeoff
- Three-plane hull — transitions from nose to tail to reduce planing speed, delivering an earlier and smoother lift-off
- Even volume distribution — stable on the water while paddling or waiting for bumps; accelerates predictably into flight
- Four volume options including 140L — the 140L is not available in the Nvision, making the standard Odyssey the only option for heavier riders or those wanting maximum margin
- Narrow downwind outline — sits in the swell face and tracks efficiently; reduces drag in flight
Real-World Feel
On the water, the Odyssey DW is stable and confidence-inspiring — it paddles well, tracks into bumps without fighting you, and the three-plane hull does its job of reducing the effort needed to get flying. Compared to the Nvision, it's heavier by roughly 2 kg, which is most noticeable during pump cycles on extended runs. For riders doing occasional downwind sessions or building technique, that difference is perfectly manageable. For UK downwinding — shorter fetch, choppier but rideable swells — the Odyssey DW performs solidly and doesn't feel like a compromise compared to what's actually available out on the water.
Setup and Fit
Deep Tuttle foil track (16"), compatible with Naish foil mast feet and other major brands using the same standard. No footstrap inserts — open-foot riding as standard for downwinding. Works with the full Naish foil range; the Excalibur HA is the recommended companion for maximum downwind performance. Board only — foil sold separately.
Materials and Construction
EPS foam core with composite glass and carbon lamination. Reinforced in the foil box and stance areas for rigidity under load. More impact-resistant than the hollow Nvision construction — a practical advantage for riders who launch from rocky beaches or are harder on equipment generally.
Size Guide
| Size | Length | Volume | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90L | 7'2" (218 cm) | 90 litres | Lighter riders (under 80 kg), experienced downwinders building technique |
| 110L | 7'8" (234 cm) | 110 litres | Versatile all-rounder — 75–95 kg riders, well-suited to UK conditions |
| 125L | 8'4" (254 cm) | 125 litres | Heavier riders, choppier conditions, riders building downwind skills |
| 140L | 8'10" (270 cm) | 140 litres | Heavier riders (95+ kg) or those wanting maximum stability for learning downwinding |
Sizing guide: for riders new to downwinding, the 125L or 140L provides the most forgiving introduction. As technique develops, the 110L is the natural progression for most rider weights. The 90L suits lighter, more experienced riders who want a snappier, more reactive platform.
Pairs Well With
Best paired with a high-aspect foil for downwinding — the Naish Excalibur Semi-Complete (944–1144 cm²) is our recommended combination for strong glide and pump efficiency. Riders considering the premium hollow build should compare with the Odyssey DW Nvision. Browse our full wing foiling collection and wingfoiling accessories for bags, hardware and leashes.
Why We Stock It
Downwinding is the discipline we're most excited about right now, and the Odyssey DW is the board that makes it genuinely accessible without requiring Nvision money for your first downwind board. We stock the full four-size run — including the 140L that a lot of shops don't bother carrying — because heavier riders shouldn't be pushed into an undersized board just because it's what's readily available.
FAQs
What is the difference between the Naish Odyssey DW and the Odyssey DW Nvision?
Same outline and hull design, different construction. The standard Odyssey DW uses EPS composite — heavier and more impact-resistant. The Nvision uses hollow shell carbon (SCC) — approximately 2 kg lighter, stiffer and more expensive. The standard Odyssey DW is the better-value entry into downwinding; the Nvision is the tool for riders who want maximum performance and less pump fatigue on long runs.
Is the Naish Odyssey DW good for beginners to downwind foiling?
Yes — particularly the 125L and 140L sizes. The 140L is one of the most accessible downwind boards available for riders who are new to the discipline, giving enough platform to focus on technique rather than just staying upright. The 90L and 110L are better suited to riders with existing downwind or foiling experience.
What foil goes with the Odyssey DW?
For downwinding, a high-aspect foil is the right choice — the Naish Excalibur Semi-Complete in 944 or 1144 cm² is our recommendation. The Excalibur's glide and pump efficiency match the Odyssey DW's hull design well. Contact us for advice on building a complete downwind setup.
What foil track length does the Naish Odyssey DW have?
16" foil track — slightly longer than the Nvision's 15", giving a wider range of fore/aft mast positioning adjustment to suit different foil choices and session conditions.
Is the 140L only available in the standard Odyssey DW and not the Nvision?
Yes — the Nvision hollow carbon version is available in 90L, 110L and 125L only. The 140L is exclusive to the standard Odyssey DW composite build.
Can the Naish Odyssey DW be used for wing foiling as well as downwinding?
Yes — the foil box is compatible and the volume range covers wing foiling needs. The board's outline is shaped for downwinding so it's less manoeuvrable than a dedicated wing foil board, but it's a practical crossover option if you split time between the two disciplines. For primary wing foiling, the Hover Wing Ascend CU is the better tool.
