Description
The Ozone Reflex V1 Kite is a 2026 three-strut freeride kite built around a durable Dacron airframe and Vortex-inspired shaping, designed for riders who want big air, easy kite loops and all-round twintip performance without the twitchiness of a full-on Aluula race kite. It's the kite Ozone built to replace the Enduro, moving the range's everyday freeride option a step closer to the flagship Ozone Vortex.
The Reflex uses a Teijin Triple Ripstop Dacron canopy with Dyneema-reinforced trailing edges, so it shrugs off the kind of scuffs and beach drags that would chew through a lighter Aluula frame. That durability, combined with a 16-point bridle carried over from the Vortex, gives it a smooth, instinctive feel that suits everything from a first season on a twintip to wave, foil and light-wind days. As a kitesurfing kite, it's genuinely cross-discipline rather than a one-trick freerider.
Who It's For
- Discipline: Twintip freeride and freestyle first, with enough range for wave, hydrofoil and light-wind sessions
- Level: Complete beginners through to advanced riders — forgiving enough to learn on, lively enough not to be outgrown quickly
- Best for: Riders who want one do-it-all kite rather than a quiver, and who value a tough airframe over outright top-end speed
Key Features
- Teijin Triple Ripstop Dacron airframe – tougher against sand, rocks and daily use than an Aluula frame, so it holds up to heavy rotation in a shop or school fleet as well as regular home use
- 16-point bridle system – carried over from the Vortex, it sharpens turning and bar feedback without needing a stiffer, less forgiving canopy
- 3-strut Vortex-inspired shape – a slightly lower aspect ratio than the Vortex for more low-end power and a softer, more accessible ride
- Dyneema trailing-edge reinforcement – keeps trailing edge tension consistent over time instead of the canopy stretching and going baggy
- Tight turning radius – kite loops are easy to learn and throw with confidence, with no nasty surprises mid-loop
- 9 sizes, 5m to 13m – enough spread to cover most UK wind ranges without needing a huge quiver
Real-World Feel
On the water the Reflex flies noticeably softer through the bar than the Vortex — you get less of that constantly-switched-on tension and more of a relaxed, point-and-go feel, which is exactly what you want if you're still building confidence with kite loops or jumping. It climbs through the window easily and holds boost well for a Dacron kite; it won't out-float a dedicated big-air Aluula kite in gusty offshore wind, but for UK onshore and sideshore conditions it's more than lively enough. Where it really earns its keep is durability — Dacron laughs off the odd beach drag or rocky landing that would mark up a lighter canopy, which matters if you're kiting somewhere like the Wirral with a mixed sand-and-groyne launch.
Turning is tight and predictable rather than razor-sharp, so kite loops feel controllable and repeatable rather than snappy. For riders coming off an older, heavier freeride kite, the step up in bar feel and depower is obvious within a session or two.
Setup / Fit
The Reflex uses Ozone's standard four-line bridle setup — pump to full pressure, check the bridle lines are running clean and un-twisted through the pulleys before launching, and match bar size to kite size (45cm bar for 5–7m, 50cm for 8–12m, 55cm for 13m). Wind range below is based on an 80kg rider; lighter or heavier riders, and different board volumes, will shift the practical range in either direction, so size down in gusty conditions and up for light-wind days.
Materials
- Canopy/airframe: Teijin Triple Ripstop Dacron
- Trailing edge: double-layer reinforcement with internal Dyneema line
- Bridle: 16-point system, four-line compatible
- Strut layout: 3-strut

Pairs Well With
Most riders buying a Reflex will also need a control bar if they're not already running Ozone-compatible lines, and a twintip board if you're building a full freeride setup from scratch.
Why We Stock It
We're a rider-owned shop and we test what we sell — the Reflex earns its place in the range because it does exactly what an everyday freeride kite should: launch reliably, fly predictably, and take a beating without complaint. Not every rider needs a race-bred Aluula kite that costs more to repair after one bad landing. For club days, lessons, and riders who want one kite that covers freeride, some wave time and the odd foil session, the Reflex is the more honest recommendation, and that's why we bring it in.
FAQs
What is the Ozone Reflex V1 Kite?
The Ozone Reflex V1 Kite is a 2026 three-strut freeride kite with a durable Dacron airframe and a 16-point bridle, built for twintip freeride and freestyle riding with enough range for wave, foil and light-wind sessions. It comes in nine sizes from 5m to 13m.
Is the Ozone Reflex good for beginners?
Yes. Its softer Dacron canopy and forgiving bar feel make it easier to manage than a stiffer Aluula kite, and its tight, predictable turning helps new riders learn kite loops without surprises. It's built tough enough for lesson and rental use too.
What's the difference between the Ozone Reflex and the Ozone Vortex?
The Reflex uses a Dacron airframe with a slightly lower aspect ratio for a softer, more forgiving ride and better low-end power, while the Vortex uses a stiffer Aluula frame with a higher aspect ratio for faster forward flight and top-end performance. The Reflex suits beginner-to-advanced riders; the Vortex suits intermediate-to-pro riders chasing outright performance.
What size Ozone Reflex kite should I buy?
Match kite size to your typical local wind strength and your weight — as a guide for an 80kg rider, a 9m covers roughly 17–31 knots and a 12m covers 14–25 knots. Lighter riders or gustier UK coastal spots will generally suit sizing down slightly.
What is the Ozone Reflex kite made from?
The canopy and airframe use Teijin Triple Ripstop Dacron with Dyneema-reinforced trailing edges, chosen for durability and abrasion resistance over the stiffer, lighter Aluula fabric used on Ozone's race-focused kites.
Can the Ozone Reflex be used for wave or foil kiting?
Yes, though it isn't its primary design brief. Its tight turning and softer flex make it a capable cross-discipline kite for beginner wave riding, foil sessions and long downwinders, alongside its main job as a twintip freeride kite.
